Keyword Research, Content Strategy, and the Quest For the Buyer

Keyword research is an important process search engine optimisation experts use to identify and study search terms that users enter in search engines when searching for products, services or just general information. Keywords are generally related to searches, which are usually conducted by internet users when looking for services, products or information of some kind. A good keyword tool will allow you to identify what words people generally search for and will allow you to tailor your website content, marketing campaigns and other online activities to appeal to these users. However, if you were to locate five stores that sold “free” ice cream, you’d have to change your ad ten times in order to get your ad seen.

Your keyword research, however, isn’t done entirely with the goal of getting tons of traffic. Your keyword research should be conducted with the intention of finding high volume searches related to your target market. If you are selling products related to “vacation destinations,” for example, you would want to locate the highest search volumes related to those keywords. High volume keywords are most likely to bring in customers. So, do your keyword research and find out what words people are most likely to use when looking for vacation destinations. That should be your focus.

Another great way to utilize your keyword research is to determine which keywords are ideal for your buyers. Let’s say, for instance, that you are selling ski equipment; your main keywords should relate to ski equipment. However, if you were to conduct keyword research on a particular brand of skiing equipment and found that brand had negative connotations, you could change your keyword strategy to target a different group of buyers. This is called your brand strategy.

The last step in my overall keyword strategy is to make sure that I am creating content. There are many ways to accomplish this, but my preferred method is to write articles that are optimized for my target audience. Article directories are the number one place to do this. When I am ready to create a content strategy, I will look for sites that have similar products or services that I can promote. Once I have found these sites, I will send them a private email that contains a link back to my site.
